Obituary of Lena Boyd

Lena Mazzanti Boyd, age 87, died peacefully Monday morning, July 30, at Morningside Assisted Living in Fayetteville, AR. Originally Mrs. Boyd was from Lake Village, AR. where she lived her entire life until a few years ago when she moved to Fayetteville to be near her daughter. 

 

Lena was born on May 6, 1931 to Egino and Franchina Mazzanti. She graduated Lakeside High School in 1949 where she played basketball and was Homecoming Queen. Lena earned her Registered Nurse degree in Little Rock at Saint Vincent’s Nursing School. In 1953 she married Charles Phillip Boyd of Greenville, 

 

Phillip and Lena raised their four children in Lake Village where they were members of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and attended Saint Mary’s Catholic Grammar School. Later at Lakeside High Mrs. Boyd was the beloved school nurse. Striving to promote community awareness of mental health issues, Lena also served on the Delta Mental Health Board. 

 

Mrs. Boyd is preceded in death by her husband, Phillip, her son, Joel, and seven of her ten siblings. She is survived by her son, Charles Phillip Boyd Jr., of Little Rock, her daughters, Amy (Harvey) Smith of Fayetteville, Barbara (Ed) McLaughlin of Darien, Ct., and their children, Ben Smith, Jocelyn Smith (Francois) Cantau, James McLaughlin, Paul (Jess) McLaughlin, Frances McLaughlin, and great granddaughter, Gwen McLaughlin. Lena is also survived by three of her brothers; Anthony (Louise) Mazzanti, Francis (Jalna) Mazzanti and Jerry (Sharon) Mazzanti. 

 

Funeral arrangements are being made through Bishop King Funeral Home in Lake Village. There will be visitation on Thursday evening, August 2, at 4:00 pm followed by a Rosary at 5:30 pm. Father Stephen Hart will officiate the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church at 10:00am on Friday, August 3, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
