William J. Powers, Jr., “Bill”, 85, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2020, at his home in Moss Point, Mississippi. Bill was born on April 6, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Powers; sisters, Patricia Bardo and Miriam Richroath; and brother, Francis X. Powers - all of New York. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Josephine Powers; children, William Powers, III (Patricia) of Roswell, Georgia, Kelly Roveda Krecker (Martin) of Mobile, Alabama, and Matthew Powers (Brady Anne) of Gulfport; grandchildren, Sarah Roveda of Columbus, Ohio, David Roveda (Abigail) of Hoover, Alabama, Catherine Wentworth (David) of Statesboro, Georgia, Julianna Roveda of Mobile, Alabama, Patrick Powers and Colin Powers, both of Gulfport; and great-grandchildren, George Roveda of Hoover, Alabama, and Lucy Wentworth of Statesboro, Georgia. A Mass of Remembrance was held on December 23, 2020, at 11:00 am, at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Moss Point. A Rosary was offered prior to the Mass. Graveside services will be at Saint Isidore Catholic Cemetery in Lake Village, Arkansas January 16, 2021, at 10:00 am under the direction of Bishop-King Funeral Home of Lake Village Arkansas. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy consider donating in memory of Bill to one of the following: Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 4114 First Street, Moss Point, Mississippi 39563; Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church Building Fund, 9062 Kiln Delisle Road, Pass Christian, Mississippi 39571; or Saint Joseph Abbey (Abbey General Fund), 75376 River Road, Saint Benedict, Louisiana 70457, whose monks hand-crafted the casket in which Bill will be interred.
